In August 2014 the Centre of International Relations, Faculty of Social Sciences at University of Ljubljana, Slovenia successfully completed a LLP project Problem based learning and cross-curricular teaching of the EU under the academic supervision of Ana Bojinović Fenko. The main aim of the project was to develop concrete teaching tools for teaching about EU topics in primary and secondary schools on the basis of two principles: a) problem-based learning (PBL) and b) cross-curricular teaching (CCT) of EU-specific themes. In this respect, the first objective of this project was to solve the problem of existing materials’ focus on fact-giving information and the lack of process-understanding of the EU integration, history, policies, polity and opportunities for citizens. The second objective of the project was to develop and provide teachers an interdisciplinary approach to teaching the EU topics, by exposing themes and EU-related processes, which cross particular topics such as sustainable development, food security and the role of EU in the world. The third objective of the project was to develop a permanent structural and institutional network to connect all levels of education (primary to tertiary) regarding learning about the EU- related topics at school for lasting effects of PBL and CCT.
