Overshadowed by multiple crises and geopolitical tensions, the Israel-Palestinian conflict remains a significant driver for regional instability and should be considered a key testing ground for the EU’s new Global Strategy. While the EU cannot realistically emerge as the lead diplomatic actor in the so-called peace process, and has traditionally struggled to move from being “a payer to a player” in Israeli-Palestinian diplomacy, contemporary developments may provide an opening for a more coherent approach.
