Dr. Natasha Wunsch has joined the European Politics group at CIS in February 2017. She was awarded an ETH postdoc fellowship to work on democratic backsliding in Eastern Europe.
The Swiss National Science Foundation awarded the European Politics group at CIS a research grant for a project on “Constructing Europe’s Borders: Membership Discourses and European Integration” for the years 2017-2020”. The project uses discourse network analysis to trace and map the transformation of the political discourses on Europe’s borders and membership, both in the European Union and in its contested neighborhood. It is designed to show how the positions and arguments of political parties on membership issues have shifted over time, how transnational discourse coalition have formed and changed, and how discursive shifts have affected institutional practices of membership.
