SUMMIT Dissemination Conference: “Spreading knowledge and fostering research about a key institution”

16-17 January 2017, Europäische Akademie Berlin

The Centre of Turkey and EU Studies (CETEUS) of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wessels organised the last conference of the SUMMIT Jean Monnet project, which covered topics around the European Council. Next to insights of Jim Cloos (Council of the European Union), discussions were held about the future role of the institution and about how teaching on the European Council could be improved. Yvonne Nasshoven (Federal Foreign Office), Funda Tekin (CETEUS, CIFE) and Thomas Westphal (Federal Ministry of Finance) discuss the role of EUCO for national decision-makers.

 

PhD Workshop: “Being a member of the EU: pros & cons”

19-20 January 2017, Sciences Po, Paris

 The joint EUCOPAS-THESEUS PhD workshop, organised by Sciences Po, Paris and the Centre for Turkey and EU Studies (CETEUS), Cologne was aimed at enabling PhD candidates in EU studies to exchange ideas and discuss their research with their peers and senior academic colleagues. Topics covered Euroscepticism, the migration and financial crisis as well as external action. Marie Walter-Franke, Freie Universität Berlin, received the award for her paper on “Building a common European Asylum System despite discordance? The role of stereotypes in the discursive process of policy-making”. She was invited to publish her paper in the academic journal Politique européenne.
