Koç University was founded in 1993 as a non-profit private university in Istanbul, Turkey. Committed to excellence in research, Koç University supports academic and interpersonal development, and provides state of the art research facilities and intellectual environment to support research. Guided by the educational philosophy of “creative teaching/participatory learning”, the university also offers 29 undergraduate and 54 graduate programs organized across seven colleges and four graduate schools.
As a new and dynamic center of higher learning in Turkey, Koç University has rapidly risen to earn the top reputation among universities in Turkey, and it ranked in the range of top 201th-250th universities worldwide under the category of “social sciences” of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of 2020. Koç University’s social sciences programs are among the top programs in Turkey and they have a high-level of expertise in European Studies, Political Economy, Conflict Resolution, Gender and Migration Studies.
Koç University has established over 150 research centers, forums and laboratories that conduct scientific and applied work, suggest policies, and transfer the university’s accumulated academic knowledge to society. Research centers with particular links to the Department of International Relations include Migration Research Center at Koç University (MiReKoç), The Center for Research on Globalization, Peace and Democratic Governance (GLODEM), Koç University Gender Studies Center (KOÇ-KAM), Center for Asian Studies (KUASIA) and Tüpraş Energy Center (KÜTEM). More recently two new centers, Koç University Center for Field Research (KUCSR) and Koç University Center for Civil Society and Philanthropy Research have also been inaugurated
