Upon invitation of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues Fernand de Varennes, assoc. prof. dr. Petra Roter from Centre of International Relations at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana (CIR), participated at the first regional forum on minority issues held in Brussels on 6 and 7 May 2019. The forum was one of the three regional forums to be organised this year by the Special Rapporteur with the aim of analysing regional specificities regarding the implementation of linguistic minority rights – especially in the field of education. Dr Roter addressed the forum with a contribution to the preparation of public policies on the linguistic rights of minority members in the field of education. Minority rights experts are currently preparing a set of European regional recommendations to be presented at the 12th Global Forum on Minority Issues to be held at the end of 2019 in Geneva.
