In September 2017 the Centre of International Relations (CIR – Slovenia) begun the project activities related to an EU-funded project on Anti EU-Rhetoric and Nationalistic Populism in Central Europe.
The aims of the project include (1) to examine why political and societal actors resort to “anti-European” rhetoric, (2) show if and to what extent as well as why people believe in this rhetoric and regard it as justified, and (3) to depict if and to what extent “EU bashing” and isolationist policymaking may even damage national interests.
By the end of February 2019 project partners from Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and Slovenia will thus prepare: (1) public opinion surveys in each of the participating countries; (2) round tables with civil society and media representatives; (3) public events with the wider public; (4) analyses and op-eds by the five partner organizations; (5) two closing public events in Brussels and Vienna.
Project partners include: ÖGfE – Austrian Society for European Politics, Vienna, Austria (Lead Organisation); EUROPEUM – Institute for European Policy, Prague, Czech Republic; Center for European Neighborhood Studies, Central European University, Budapest, Hungary; GLOBSEC Policy Institute, Bratislava, Slovakia; and Centre of International Relations, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The project is co-funded by the Europe for Citizens programme of the European Union.
