European Politics Seminar on “The European Union as a global actor” at the Jean-Monnet Chair of Prof. Wolfgang Wessels, University of Cologne, November 2012

Within the framework of EXACT three research fellows, Leonhard den HERTOG, Andreas RASPOTNIK and Peter VALANT will give an intensive European Politics Seminar on “The European Union as a global actor” at the Jean-Monnet Chair of Prof. Wolfgang Wessels, University of Cologne. The course will introduce students to the institutional architecture of the European Union, especially to different instruments of external action that the EU has at its disposal.

With the use of the Treaty of Lisbon and other relevant international frameworks, the main goal of the course will be to assess the European Union` s role in the world and to critically examine the strengths and weaknesses of EU-Africa relations, EU-Arctic policies as well as of EU-enlargement and the European Neighbourhood Policy with special attention to human rights and human security.

EXACT fellows Dana DEPO and James NYOMAKWA-Obimpeh will enrich the course with their precious expertise and insight as guest speakers.
