Online Event: “EU-Russia Relations: What is Slovakia’s Position?”, May 11 (IESIR, Slovakia)

“Slovakia stands for obligations to the EU and supports the Ukrainian people and sovereignty of the country in the fight against Russia […] and especially today, there is no time for naïve memories for historical legacy, but rather for strong support we can express to Ukraine, we support by our international obligations. Slovakia stands behind their obligations coming from international law.”

On May 11 at 10:00 CET the Trans European Policy Studies Association is joining with its Slovak member, the Institute of European Studies and International Relations (IESIR) from Comenius University Bratislava, to host a debate on Slovakia’s position on EU-Russia relations. Although relations between Slovakia and Russia cooled following the 2014 annexation of Crimea, Slovakia had strong economic ties to Russia until sanctions were introduced in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine.

“EU-Russia Relations: What is Slovakia’s Position?” will analyse relations in the context of Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, and of TEPSA’s upcoming book “EU-Russia Relations and the Future of Europe: Views from the Capitals”. The event is moderated by Andrea Figulová and will feature contributions from TEPSA Chairperson and Dean of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences at Comenius University, Lucia Mokrá, and leading expert in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, regionalism and regional integration, and identity in international relations, Aliaksei Kazharski.
