“Examination of Afghanistan’s Development Traps”, Klemen Knez and Tina G. Lokar (CIR, Slovenia)

In the paper published in the Regional Science Policy and Practice journal, the authors examine the factors behind Afghanistan’s persistent underdevelopment. They draw on various theories of development traps operating at the demographic, economic and institutional levels and employ non-linear smooth transition models in order to assess whether and to what extent the functioning of the studied indicators affects Afghanistan’s development. They show that Afghanistan is caught in multiple development traps with entwined functioning.
