Achieving a 55% reduction in emissions by 2030 is the goal of the European Union’s “Fit for 55 package”. The proposal presented in July 2021 includes thirteen legislative measures that will occupy most of the EU political debate during the 2021-22 political year. Necessary European Parliament and Council approval of the package will be challenging given the differing interests of EU member states.
