The Centre for Small State Studies at the University of Iceland is hosting an intensive summer academy focused on small states and European integration from June 19 to July 1. This is the fifteenth year in a row in which the summer school is held. Students from ten universities in Europe participate in the school and the teaching is carried out by internationally renowned academics in the field.
The summer school is part of a larger Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership project, “Small States in Europe: Towards a Cross-Disciplinary Approach”. The University of Iceland is the lead partner, with nine other universities participating in the project: The University of Copenhagen, Vilnius University, Tallinn University of Technology, University of St. Andrews, the University of Malta, Lund University, University of Ljubljana, Queen Mary University of London and Comenius University in Bratislava
The aim this partnership is to create a pan-European consortium of experts in small state studies that will train young teachers and researchers in applying insights from small state studies to their research and teaching. The summer academy is organized around four interlinked teaching and research themes (TRT) that all have specifically targeted relevance to disciplines beyond the traditional focus of small state studies:
TRT 1: Small states: Foreign policy and economic security
TRT 2: Small states addressing the migration crisis
TRT 3: Small states in international law
TRT 4: Small states and the challenges of good governance
