Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic) founded in 1348, is one of the oldest universities in the world and a top-ranked European educational and scientific institution. Benefitting from the university’s rich intellectual traditions and ability to adapt to the changing international environment, key Czech opinion makers belong to the university staff, and graduates from the Charles University enjoy one of the highest employment rates of any population segment in the Czech Republic. The student body is over 51,000, with a growing share of international students.
The Faculty of Social Sciences, while being one of the youngest faculties in the university, has already earned recognition for its interdisciplinary programmes focusing on politics, economy and security of the EU and its Eastern and Southern neighbourhood. The Faculty of Social Science is the coordinator of the MSCA-RISE Horizon 2020 project on Global Excellence in Modelling of Climate and Energy (GEMCLIME). Currently, the faculty is involved in several other EU-funded research and training programmes.
The Department of European Studies (formerly Department of West European Studies) at the Faculty of Social Sciences has received four times the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence award – on the first occasion as the first institution in Central and Eastern Europe in 1999. The Department has contributed to many international research and training projects focused on European integration, such as EU-CONSENT and EU-CONNEX within the FP7, MERCURY and TRANSWORLD within the FP7, S4D4C within the Horizon 2020 programme, as well as EULEIT, IGC Net, EXACT, PEGASUS, and VIADUCT.
