Prof. dr. Andreja Jaklič, a member of the Centre of International Relations at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia (CIR), participated in the AmCham’s Business Breakfast on internationalization. The event took place on 28 January 2020 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Other speakers at the roundtable, that was moderated by Jaka Repanšek, founder of Republis Consulting, included:  dr. Iztok Seljak from Hidria Holding, Ajda Cuderman from the public agency SPIRIT Slovenia, Damir Opsenica from Iskratel, and Matjaž Grm from Adria Mobil.

The speakers at the round table discussed the importance of internationalization for Slovenian companies, the rapid changes in the international environment as opportunities for the Slovenian economy, and the importance of innovation, branding, exports, as well as success in the domestic market for successful internationalization. Prof. dr. Andreja Jaklič said that the political instabilities, new protectionism, new technologies, and changes in global value chains can spark growth in the Slovenian economy. She suggested that companies with more daring and complex multi-market strategies that offer several different products in various markets are often more successful than the risk averse firms. She also stressed that “the key to success was a well-established strategy, as it also determined the long-term survival.”
