Public Discussion: “The Future of Belarus in the Shadow of the War”, October 27 (LIIA, Latvia)

Since the onset of the war in neighboring Ukraine, Belarus has almost disappeared from the agenda of regional policymakers. The question of how to support the opposition and civil society of Belarus to help ensure its sovereign, democratic status is ever more pertinent. The public discussion will gather prominent historians, academics and journalists to discuss the most relevant contemporary political and security ongoings in Belarus and the country’s possible future trajectories.
Speakers:
  • Stefan Eriksson, Former Ambassador of Sweden to Belarus, currently Director of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia;
  • Siarhei Pelesa, Progamming Editor of Belsat TV;
  • Lizaveta Dubinka-Hushcha, PhD, Assistant Lecturer at Copenhagen Business School and Associate Professor at European Humanities University;
  • David R. Marples, PhD, Distinguished University Professor of Russian and East European History, University of Alberta.
