On 28 November 2018 the Razumkov Centre and Atlantic Council held a conference: “The State of Ukraine’s Energy Sector” in the Atlantic Council Headquarters (Washington DC).
The key Speakers were: Ambassador Richard Morningstar, Founding Director and Chairman of Global Energy Center (Atlantic Council), Mr. Edward Chow, Non-resident Senior Associate, Energy and National Security, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Dr. Ariel Cohen, Senior Fellow, Eurasia Center, Atlantic Council. The Conference was moderated by: Dr. Anders Aslund, Senior Fellow, Eurasia Center, Atlantic Council and Melinda Haring, Editor, Ukraine Alert, Atlantic Council.
At this event, Mr. Volodymyr Omelchenko, the Energy Programs Director at Razumkov Centre, has made apresentation based on the publication on role of Ukraine’s energy sector in global energy processes. This was followed by panel discussions exploring the current state of energy in Ukraine, immediate and long-term strategies for reform and development, and Ukraine’s place in the global energy sector. Among the panellists there were also experts of the Razumkov Centre’s Energy Programmes: Volodymyr Omelchenko, Victor Logatskiy, Svitlana Chekunova and Maksym Biliavskyi.
Reforming Ukraine’s energy sector is critical to its national security and development. In recent years, the country has undertaken significant efforts to reform aspects of the energy sector, including the electricity and gas markets, regulatory and tariff systems. Prospects for renewable energy sources continue to be explored along with international investment opportunities in the Ukrainian energy market.
