The Office of CIFE in Brussels and The Group of CIFE Alumni in Brussels organised the 27th CIFE Lunchtime Debate “Research and Innovation for a Sustainable World”, with a participation of Domenico ROSSETTI di VALDALBERO, Principal Administrator, DG Research and Innovation, European Commission. The debate took place on Tuesday 17 December at the University Foundation in Brussels.
Established in 1954, the Centre International de Formation Européenne (CIFE) is a private non-profit international organisation which provides several European studies programmes: Masters in Advanced European and International Studies, in European Union Studies online, in EU – Central Asia Studies online, as well as Summer University sessions, evening courses, conferences, seminars and publications. CIFE carries out its activities from Nice, Berlin, Brussels and Istanbul. Since 2005, CIFE has been presided over by Mr Jean-Claude JUNCKER. The CIFE office in Brussels regularly organises lunchtime debates on the major questions that are at the centre of interest concerning the European Union. Five times a year, the “Midis du CIFE” provide an opportunity for notable actors and observers of the European integration process to comment and debate with the audience on topics concerning the internal and external policies of the European Union. The success of these meetings, which take place at the University Foundation in Brussels, is not for the least part due to the active participation of the public. Their guests mainly come from the European institutions, universities, the press and civil society organisations, and the numerous former students of the CIFE programmes. Among the guest speakers who have already honoured the “Midis du CIFE” with their presence are several distinguished Members of the European Parliament, a Member of the Cabinet of the President of the European Council, two Members of the European Commission, including a Vice-President, the President of the EU Committee of the Regions, the President of the European Economic and Social Committee, a Director General of the European Commission, Presidents of a European political parties, one of the most renowned European journalists, prominent academics as well as heads of important study and research networks.
