TEPSA Guest Lecture N°3:

Multilateral Negotiations within the EU

On October 9th, the Centre of International Relations from the University of Ljubljana, under its Director Prof. Dr. Marjan Svetlicic, hosted a TEPSA Guest Lecture on the topic of European Negotiations. The lecture by Dr. Paul Meerts, Advisor to the Director of the Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael, was attended by about 70 participants. Among other things he emphasized the specific characteristics of multilateral negotiations within EU, as compared to other multilateral negotiations, differences among countries approaches and characteristics of diplomatic vis à vis business negotiations. Explanations were given on how to prepare for such negotiations, what skills are needed and which factors are decisive in determining outcomes. The lecture triggered off many questions by the auditorium.
