“The Strategic Compass of the European Union. An answer to global challenges”, Mihaela-Adriana Pădureanu, Ana-Maria Andreea Anghelescu and Ionuț-Mircea Marcu (EIR, Romania)

In view of the adoption of the Strategic Compass of the European Union, on 23 March 2022, the European Institute of Romania published the collective Working Paper titled “The Strategic Compass of the European Union. An answer to global challenges”. The paper provides an overview of the negotiations, the main objectives and national positions, as well as of the means through which the document reflects the transatlantic relation.

The adoption of the Strategic Compass shows the political will for boosting EU security presence in the world, emphasising the European unity in this period marked by multiple threats. The four dimensions of the Strategic Compass define specific measures to be undertaken by the EU and the Member States in order to strengthen EU’s role as a security provider, while also ensuring the complementarity with NATO and the enhancement of the transatlantic partnership.
