More than a year ago President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev came to power and initiated an ambitious economic and political reform program in Kazakhstan. However, the pandemic has posed various challenges to the implementation of reforms and slowed them down. At the same time, it has also become a catalyst for launching new reform measures such as public sector reform, large-scale privatization, and green economy promotion. These measures are aimed at tackling the impact of the pandemic while also accelerating the path to diversify the economy away from hydrocarbons.
The webinar will take stock of the reform progress in Kazakhstan since 2019, the impact of the pandemic on the country and its reforms, the status of the transition to green economy and renewable energy. It will also touch upon on how the pandemic has impacted Kazakhstan’s foreign policy and relations with other countries in Central Asia and beyond.
