One of the most serious one was that the validity of the American security guarantee, NATOs Article 5, was put in question. 

The election of President Biden was therefore enthusiastically received in most European capitals. Finally, it was thought, we could get back to “normal”. It was even argued that this was an opportunity to strengthen the transatlantic bonds. 

However, more recent events, such as the ill-prepared evacuation from Afghanistan and the secret negotiation over Australian submarines at the expense of France, have showed a United States that, at least occasionally, still puts “America first”.
